Customer Review: too big, slow, disappointing
I have owned a Powershot A75 for four years now and have been very happy with it, even had a few photos from a trip to Mexico win some local awards and have several prints framed in my home. On my birthday a few weeks ago, it quit working so I decided to buy a new one. I did two weeks worth of research and finally decided on this one, largely because I trust the Canon brand.
I read several negative reviews on this camera and decided to ignore them, since the A1000 gets better reviews and this is supposedly a step up. I had looked at the A1000 in stores but decided to go with the 2000 for the 6x zoom. However, I was surprised when I received it to see that it is LARGER than the A1000, which you can’t tell from the pictures. If you really want the 3″ screen you may not mind, but this camera actually seemed bigger than my old A75 that takes four batteries. I’ve always found my A75 to be on the large size, so I didn’t care that much about having an ultra-compact camera, but I was not expecting it to actually be bigger.
Also discovered that the flash recharge takes longer than my A75, I’m guessing because it takes two batteries instead of four. I was also expecting a huge improvement in image stabilization and motion detection since I bought the A75 four years ago, but I still got blurry pictures of my cat indoors with no flash (she’s white so flash always washes her out) but with plenty of light and set to “Kids and pets.” Maybe I’m just running up against the limits of a digital point and shoot, but I thought the technology would have improved more by now.
Sent it back and decided to wait for the new Lumix DMC-FS15 that’s coming out at the end of the month. Smaller, faster, wide angle lens, and I love the option of extra optical zoom on the Panasonics.
All in all, if you don’t mind the larger size and the slower speed between shots with flash, then it might not be a bad camera. I was very happy with the image quality of my A75.
